Which material is right for your sign?
Every board is printed on our flatbed and cut in our Canvey Island workshop. Still not sure? Tell us where it’s going and we’ll recommend one.
Correx
Two thin plastic skins joined by ribs inside, like plastic cardboard. It’s light, waterproof and the lowest-cost board, so it’s perfect for signs that go up fast and don’t need to last for years.
- Great for
- Building site and safety signs, estate agent boards, events, directions and temporary signs
- Not ideal for
- Premium or long-term signs. The ribs can show through and large boards can flex in wind.
- Thickness
- 4mm for everyday signs · 6mm is stiffer for bigger boards and windy sites
- Lifespan
- Short to medium term
Foamex
A rigid, lightweight foam board with a smooth, flat surface that gives a really sharp print. The most popular board for indoor signs.
- Great for
- Indoor wall signs, offices, point of sale, exhibition panels, menu boards and sheltered outdoor spots
- Not ideal for
- Long-term exposed outdoor use. It can bow in strong sun, so choose ACM for that.
- Thickness
- 3mm for small and indoor signs · 5mm for most wall signs · 10mm for very rigid, freestanding or premium signs
- Lifespan
- Indoor or sheltered
ACM (Dibond)
Two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a solid core. Flat, strong and weatherproof, it’s the professional choice for outdoor signs that need to look good for years.
- Great for
- Shop signs, building and car park signs, hoarding panels and any long-term outdoor sign
- Not ideal for
- Short-term or budget jobs, where Correx does the job for less
- Thickness
- 3mm, rigid enough for most signs up to 2440 × 1220mm
- Lifespan
- Long term, years outdoors
Acrylic
Glass-like acrylic printed with a white backing layer so the colours really pop. A high-gloss, premium finish that looks great on stand-off fixings.
- Great for
- Reception signs, office and door signs, plaques and displays
- Not ideal for
- Busy outdoor spots where it could be knocked, or tight budgets
- Thickness
- 3mm for smaller signs and plaques · 5mm for a thicker, more solid feel

Foamex & ACM Signs questions
Correx for low-cost and temporary outdoor signs, Foamex for indoor and sheltered signs, ACM for anything that needs to last years outdoors, and acrylic for a premium indoor look. Not sure? Tell us where it’s going and we’ll recommend one.
A single board is up to 2440 × 1220mm (8ft × 4ft). Bigger signs are made in panels that butt up neatly. We’ll talk you through the joins.
We can drill holes for screws (free), add stand-off fixings for a floating look (£10 for a set of 4), or supply it plain for sticky pads or cable ties. We can also fit it for you. Just ask.
Yes. We can cut signs to shape on our cutting table. Send us your design and we’ll confirm the price.
Most signs are ready in 1–2 working days after you approve your proof. If it’s really urgent, call us on 01268 515555 and we’ll tell you what’s possible.
Yes. Delivery is £7.50 + VAT, or free on orders of £100 or more (before VAT). You’re also welcome to collect free from our workshop on Canvey Island.
